The sustainable dealership
In November 2018 Autogroep Ursem Barten opened their new dealership in Purmerend. One of the most (maybe THE most) sustainable and innovative dealership in the world is housing three car brands (Hyundai, Nissan, and Mitsubishi). Besides the unique immense glass walls and world-class isolation that allows a lot of natural light to enter and warmth to stay in, this building has a lot of other sustainable innovations to offer. Pieter Ursem (Founder) made a big step to becoming a frontrunner in sustainable dealerships.
Solar
In order to run the showroom and offices nearly off-grid, they designed a flat roof that is fully covered with 370 solar panels. This means that on a sunny day, they can deliver up to 90kW per hour.
The amount of electricity generated throughout the year is enough to cover for 80% of the annual need.
The battery
To cover peaks on sunny days and night consumption of display lights we have installed Solar Techno‘s “Battery for business” – build with our own EcarACCU refurbished cells. We are quite unique and very innovative, as today there does not exist any other conventional car dealership with such a sustainable character.
Safety
Inside we can find the heart of the system. This consists of all the necessary inverters, monitors and safety systems. On the right side of the image, you can see a part of the monitor system, communicating how much kW is being produced, output and error codes.
For the installation, a highly secure system was designed separating the system from the offices and workers. The battery is stored in a fireproof room with ventilation shafts, sealed from the rest of the dealership.
More to come
The road to circularity and sustainability does not end here. Constantly we are searching for improvements and new innovations to lower our footprint. Soon we will add a bi-directional charger connected to the solar panels and office battery, allowing us to charge (PH) EVs with green energy, and use them as a mini-grid once electricity demand is high.
Did you get inspired by our developments? Proudly we can say we will enroll full-service sustainability guidance to dealerships and businesses that want to go green.
